शाहाबाद डेरी दिल्ली में एक सुरेश नाम का आदमी रहता है। उसके चार लड़के थे पर उनमें तीन तो शादी के लायक थे और एक छोटा था। उनके किसी भी लड़के की शादी नही हुई थी। वह अपने बड़े लड़के का रिश्ता करना चाहते थे पर वह यह चाहते थे कि जहाँ से उनको बहुत सा धन और दहेज मिल सके वह अपने लड़के की शादी वही पर करेंगे और फिर उन्होने अपने बड़े बेटे की शादी एक मालदार घर से की ताकी उन्हे खूब सा दान-दहेज मिल सके, वह लड़की सुन्दर तो नही थी पर दहेज के कारण लड़के वाले शादी करने को तैयार हो गये। शादी के कुछ ही दिन बाद लड़के ने अपनी बीबी को मारना-पिटना शुरू कर दिया और वह किसी और दूसरी लड़की के चक्कर में पड़ गया। उसने सोचा कि जो धन मिलना था वह तो मिल गया अब इस लड़की का क्या करें और जिस लड़की से उसका बेटे का चक्कर था वह बडे़ घर की लड़की थी जिस कारण उससे भी उसने दहेज के कारण ही अपना चक्कर चलाय था।
