OneWorld South Asia is the south Asia office of the OneWorld International Foundation (http://www.oneworld.net). The mission of the organization is to harness the democratic potential of the information and communication technologies (ICTs) to promote human rights and sustainable development in all the five south Asian countries and a few other countries in the West and East Asian regions such as Myanmar, Maldives, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Cambodia.  OWSA sees itself as a platform for development that complements global partnerships engaged in the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Towards realisation of these goals, OneWorld South Asia has identified priorities on:

  •  Using ICT for strengthening the voice of the poor and the marginalised;
  •  Amplifying the voice of the poor and the marginalised through ICT solutions and   services for a more responsive, people-centric and pro-poor developmental planning and implementation;
  • Building ICT for Development capacity among grassroots – intermediary -  and national-level civil society advocates;
  • Assessing the impact of ICT in development and advocating for pro-poor, pro-marginalised ICD policies.

OWSA is dedicated to the objective of ‘Voicing the Voiceless’ - strategically position ICT tools ranging from the Internet to community radio – enabling the poor to effectively communicate and articulate on issues of their concern, and thus have more influence on decisions and policies that affect their lives. Development of technology tools and solutions for grassroots and civil society fraternity is an integral part of this mission.
